SONGS ABOUT TIME PT. 2

These are more assets (stickers for vinyl records and the DVD menu) I designed for the Rentals' Songs About Time project. It was a lot of work, but very satisfying to have all of the different parts come together, and a real pleasure to work closely with Matt throughout the project. He is one ambitious fellow, and a real gentleman!

THE RENTALS - SONGS ABOUT TIME PT.1

Songs About Time is a massive, multi-media quadruple album project headed by Matt Sharp (the Rentals, Weezer), an amalgamation of three art forms: photography, film, and music; executed concurrently during the space of a single year.

As the graphic designer for this project, I was responsible for the design of all assets, including: Photographs About Days, a beautifully printed hardcover book of Matt’s photography; DVD art, menus, and a companion booklet for Films About Weeks, a DVD featuring 52 films shot in 52 weeks; as well CD/LP art, album covers, and a companion booklet of lyrics and art for Songs About Time, the quadruple album The Rentals recorded over the course of 2009.

To execute this, I worked closely with both Matt, as well as the team at Artist in Residency, a firm that has done award-winning packaging design and box sets for numerous artists, including the Pixies, Beck, and Sigur Rós.

TIGER & TOAST

This is the cover of vol. 1, Issue 1 of Hossome, a zine of experimental comics, and a spread of my comic Tiger & Toast. It will be accompanying a forthcoming flexi-disc release, date TBD. Stay tuned for updates!

SUPERNATURAL PUNISHMENT EP

This is the front and back of the sleeve for Nick DeWitt's Supernatural Punishment EP, one of the records I got to help Cali with design and layout for Teenage Teardrops. You can snag a copy HERE.

"Far off instrumental far away land music. Lost Americana and Ennio Morricone. I don't know. It's beautiful and it wouldn't be out of place if it was on the soundtrack to Eraserhead.

Amazing cover photos by Thatcher Keats.

300 pressed. Lavender vinyl. Comes with download."

THE ART OF GETTING OVER

During the spring of 2009, I achieved a teenage dream by getting to meet one of the artists that turned me on to the radical possibilities of art (street and otherwise), by getting to be an artist assistant to ESPO A.K.A. Stephen Powers for a couple days, in preparation of his one-man show, 2 Fists of Iron and a Bottle of Beer, at White Flag Projects in St. Louis. Meeting one's heroes can be a lame reality check, but you couldn't meet a cooler cat than Mr. Powers. Fun times...
